Trails in Vale do Capão

Vale do Capão is a alternative location for people that want peace in a beautiful mountain town. We are located in the middle of the National Park, 100 KM (about 70 miles) from Lençóis, which is the biggest city in the region. There are several natural attractions in and around the Valley that visitors can enjoy, from great mountain top views to enormous waterfalls, small and middle size waterfalls perfect for bathing or even caves with calcium formations.

The federal organization that takes care of the National Parks and the environment in general in Brazil, IBAMA, passed an ACT requiring all tourists in the National Park of Chapada Diamantina to only  go to the trail with a local guide. That is attributed to people getting lost and other people that do not have a trail behavior education such as collecting their trash, how to use restrooms in the woods, cooking with firewood and other matters that impacts the environment and a guide can prevent it.

The water has a reddish coloration due to decomposition of natural organic material that falls from the forests above. It's like a forest tea :-) It is OK to drink the water, although your guide will show you the best spots for collecting it. Of course you can always drink bottled water.

Pé no Mato organizes groups of day trips and for longer trails and our guides are trained to make your adventure even more pleasant and safe. There are all kinds of trails and car trips that do not require a lot of walking in this magic place in the heart of the state of Bahia, Brazil.
